- Knud Knudson Kleppa was born to Knut Olsen & Malene (Larsdtr Klepa) Kleppa on February 26 1826 in Hjelmeland, Norway. He changed the spelling of the last name upon arriving in Iowa to Kleppe. Depending on who you check with his name could be spelled Knute Knudsen, Knud knudsen/Knudson. Knud married Marthe Hamre in 1851 in Norway. They arrived in America in 1857 with 2 of their children (Knud Knutson Jr(6 yrs),and Hans Knutson(3 yrs). One child died in infancy coming to America (Lars Kristian(1856) and 5 children were born in America to this union (Lars Kristian(1858),Martin Knutson((1860),Ole Knutson(1862), Malina Mari(1864)and Bertha Sorine(1866). He and his wife settled on a farm in Dover Township and lived there till he was called home to his Heavenly Father at his home on September 8,1910. Mr Kleppe was a member of the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church and had always been a religious man. he was of a substatial Character and Strong inteligence and left a family who were among the best citizens of their township. All his children resided in Fayette County, Iowa.
